With the aim of getting you back to enjoying normal, everyday activities, Simon now practices privately out of Fourth Floor Surgery at Mater Private Clinic in South Brisbane, and also publicly at the Mater Hospital.
Born in Australia to Irish/British parents, Simon gained his Medical degree from the University of London (UK) in 1986.
He undertook his orthopaedic training in Bristol and in Yorkshire, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1995. He completed Fellowship training in complex hip and knee replacement as the Bone and Cartilage transplantation Fellow at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane in 1996.
He subsequently practiced as an Orthopaedic Consultant in Liverpool (UK) for six years prior to immigrating to Australia in 2003. Subsequent to 2003 he became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

His depth of experience has meant he is regularly consulted to provide his professional opinion. Simon is currently a deputy chair of the Medical Assessment Tribunal for the Office of the Attorney General in Queensland.
Simon is registered in Queensland and practices in Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery.
Between 2003 and 2014 he held the position of Director of Orthopaedics at Mater Health Services. He is currently a Visiting Medical Officer at the Mater Hospital both in private and public.
Dr Journeaux also conducts a regular outreach clinic in Roma, outback Queensland.
His major orthopaedic elective interest is in lower limb joint replacement including hip and knee arthroplasty with a special interest in revision hip surgery.

In the UK, Simon achieved the rank of Surgeon Lieutenant Commander in the Royal Navy, attending HMS Eaglet in Liverpool. He has since been appointed to the Royal Australian Navy as a Commander. His most recent deployment was as part of Operation Render Safe in 2019 to clear undetonated explosives from the Solomon Islands.
As a Consultant in a Teaching Hospital, Simon has a commitment to teaching from Undergraduate to Postgraduate levels. Dr Journeaux attends both tutorials and bedside/theatre teaching as well as in a formal lecturing capacity. He is currently an examiner of medical students at the University of Queensland, and teaches at the annual ASSET course run by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
With contributions to over 40 publications to date, Simon continues to share his knowledge to the benefit of not only his patients but the industry as a whole.
Simon currently contributes actively to ethics approved research studies including current research on dual-mobility bearings as part of a company funded trial (Smith&Nephew) involving the use of ceramicized metal (Oxinium DH).
Simon has had the privilege of speaking to a variety of learned societies on nearly 50 occasions, 5 of which as a distinguished headline speaker. He has also been a Honorary Senior Lecturer for the University of Queensland since 2003.
